Earlier this week, I had the pleasure of preparing a few dishes for my dear friend, Becca, for a fun segment that she was shooting for Fishwife. One of the dishes that I made was this smoked trout orzo, which is one of my recipes featured in the Fishwife cookbook. It is so easy and so, so tasty.

Aside from tinned fish (which is a constant in my life), here are some other fun things I’ve been loving!

Hydro Flask ‘Sugar Crush’ Travel Tumbler 32 oz

I previously had a different emotional support water bottle, but I’d be lying if I said I haven’t been feeling influenced by all the Stanley girls. I came across this Hydroflask and knew I had to buy it because the color is called ‘sugar crush.’

I love the silicone straw and even though it’s pretty big, it still fits in the cup holder in my car. I guess I will never outgrow my compulsion to anything mildly reminiscent of the colors of sherbet.

We the Free ‘The Perfect Tee’

I recently scrounged up this tee which I may have forgotten about at the bottom of my dresser drawer. I will never disrespect such an amazing garment like this again. It’s the perfect crop length for me, a person who is constantly tucking my shirts and sweaters in because everything hits just a little too low, dammit.

I am loving this tee so much that I have influenced myself and bought another in lavender. I usually wear medium or large, and I prefer the large in this one for a slightly looser fit.

Honey Mustard Grilled Chicken Sandwiches

Makes 4 sandwiches

Active time: 25 minutes

Total time: 40 minutes

For the second installment of my series, Grilled Chicken Recipes That Don’t Suck, we’re making SANDWICHES.

It recently occurred to me that you can simply walk into a grocery store and buy pretzel buns. Did you realize that you can do that? Well, you can, and it is an amazing use of free will.

If you live in the Los Angeles area, a lot of grocery stores sell pretzel buns from Rockenwagner bakery, which is a huge life hack. And what greater item is there to eat nestled between a pretzel bun than some honey mustard grilled chicken? HM?!

I love a sauce that goes a long way, and this honey mustard sauce not only marinates the chicken, but it is used to make an aioli and a simple slaw. 1 sauce, 3 ways. BOOM.

Of course, if you’re solely looking for a tasty chicken recipe, you can skip all the extra components, but you’ve already made the honey mustard sauce, and the grill is already on, so my logic is that you might as well toast some buns and throw together a sandwich.

If you don’t have both Dijon and whole grain mustard, simply use double of whichever one you do have. I use both because I like the creaminess of the Dijon alongside the seedy texture of whole grain, but from a flavor perspective, they can be used interchangeably. The grated apple may seem like a strange addition to the slaw, but you have to trust me on this one. DIVINE.
